Need for Speed . . . Need Lotus Notes 8.5.1

by Vaughan Rivett on October 20, 2009

Okay, so it has taken me a whole week to upgrade my Lotus Notes client from 8.5 to 8.5.1!  I haven’t looked too far into its new features but a couple of things stood out in the first 5 minutes:

  1. I don’t know if it is just me, but, it seems to run really quickly.  It would seem that as of 8.0 each release has become faster and faster.
  2. I use Lotus Notes roaming profiles, when I first opened my Lotus Notes client after the upgrade I was asked if I wanted to use the machine I as running to create a master set of roaming databases on the server.  It then appeared to over-ride what was already there with new replica’s.  I have been having some issues with roaming users in the past and I believe that this feature may sort out my issues.  Is this new, or have I just not noticed it in the past?  I wonder.

This is a new feature in 8.5.1. Have a look at Mary Bath Raven’s blog: http://www.notesdesignblog.com/notesdesignblog/ndblog.nsf/dx/more-details-on-the-roaming-workspace-in-851.htm
