I am very much a results orientated person. I am not so interested in how something is done, but that the result I am looking for is achieved. The method can always be fine tuned to ensure that it is efficient as possible. But what really matters is the result.
As most readers of this blog will know, I have been sharing a bit about my experience with eProductivity for Lotus Notes and David Allen’s, “Getting Things Done” methodology. My measurement for success was to find that I am much more productive in everything that I do, and yes, that is very much the case (even though I have a long way to go yet). However, I have a little surprise that I want to mention.
The other day, my wife to book an appointment for my son in a couple of weeks. She is reasonably organized and doesn’t seem to forget very much at all, usually I have a mind like a sieve, quite the opposite really. When she got off the phone, she asked me to put a record of the appointment into my Lotus Notes eProductivity application and to remind her a couple of days before the appointment. I almost fell off my chair!
One of the things that David Allen talks about is having a “trusted system” in which you can keep track of all of your tasks. This enables your brain to relax as it doesn’t have to worry about what you should be doing as you can train your brain to trust your system. The really funny thing is that it sounds like I might be becoming my wife’s “trusted system”. Now, that’s some turn-around!
