Why I am ditching my 2 month old Nokia E63 mobile phone

by Vaughan Rivett on June 19, 2010

Recently, I was given a Nokia E63 mobile phone to use.  I thought that this phone looked great with all sorts of handy little features.  This was expected to be a bit of an upgrade from my Motorola Q (Windows Mobile) smartphone.

The Nokia had all of the modern looks and the ability to download applications from an online application store etc.

However, the main things that I require in a phone are as follows:

1. Works well as a phone

2. It will work with Lotus Traveler for my Email, Calendar, Address book and Tasks

Those requirements would seem to be quite simple right?  Yes, the Nokia can tick off these features, but it doesn’t do a very good job of it.  For instance, I use the GTD methodology (by David Allen) and Lotus Notes eProductivity (which works with GTD).  Therefore, I have over 200 tasks on the go at any one time.

The Nokia would replicate all of my tasks but didn’t give me any ability to filter them by category.  At the same time, even though I didn’t want it to replicate completed tasks with Lotus Traveler, it still did!  And worse than that, the completed tasks were all mixed in with the incomplete tasks!  What a nightmare!

I would have been happy to tolerate this if the iNotes Ultralite client would work on the phone, however this was not the case either.  I will now know what features I need to look out for in the future.
